The Fearrington Writers’ Group is a loosely organized association open to any Fearrington resident interested in writing. The aims of the organization are to discuss the art and business of writing, to aid one another in composition and publishing, and to share useful information. We also aim to give members a platform for their work whether complete or in progress.

Many members of the group have shown interests in family history, personal memoirs, essays, creative non-fiction and fiction. There is no limit to subject matter or genre. The group meets on the third Monday of September, November, January, March and May. The format of most meetings is influenced by input from members. At the discretion of the group, more formal presentations with discussion and feedback are included.

In general, we attempt to:

  • provide useful information for writers and anyone who is thinking about writing. Members are asked to bring “outside” information to our meetings and to share experiences from writers’ conferences and workshops;
  • serve as matchmaker for like-minded members. To this end there are now two sub-groups, one for folks interested in writing poetry and another for those interested in prose writing (see below);
  • provide a forum for sharing your writing;
  • encourage writing – in any form, for any purpose. We urge everyone to write something!

We consider ourselves a “work in progress” in the sense that we are eager to fine-tune our mission statement and change our meeting format to meet the needs of the group. We encourage any and all comments and suggestions.
