STATE AND LOCAL ISSUES

Democracy North Carolina is a nonpartisan organization that uses research, organizing, and advocacy to increase voter participation, reduce the influence of big money in politics and achieve a government that is truly of the people, for the people, and by the people.

Chatham Citizens for Effective Communities (CCEC) is a grassroots citizens action group, with the mission of engaging, educating and empowering citizens to enhance Chatham's future.

CONNECT is a collaborative venture of five Chatham County citizen action organizations that share concerns for conservation, preservation and protection of environmental and natural resources: Chatham Citizens for Effective Communities,  Haw River Assembly, Friends of the Rocky River, Rocky River Heritage Foundation and Sierra Club Orange-Chatham and seeks to:

  • enhance communication and facilitate coordination between member groups.
  • advance effective environmental policy advocacy efforts among member groups.
  • provide citizen education and enable citizen action regarding a wide range of natural and environmental resource issues impacting Chatham County.

To this end, CONNECT offers a web site to:

  • act as a repository of valuable information concerning  such issues as hydraulic fracturing (fracking), climate change, water quality/quantity, soil erosion, etc., and
  • provide centralized and secure communication among member groups in addressing education and advocacy issues in a timely manner.

Haw River Assembly's mission is to promote environmental education, conservation and pollution prevention; to speak as a voice for the river in the public arena; and to put into peoples' hands the tools and the knowledge they need to be effective guardians of the river.

NC Policy Watch is a public policy organization with a simple mission: to change the way our elected officials debate the important issues facing North Carolina and, ultimately, to improve the quality of life in the state by convincing state leaders to make the kinds of investments in people and institutions that allow us to address our most pressing problems. NC Policy Watch is an independent project of the NC Justice Center, North Carolina’s leading private, nonprofit anti-poverty organization. The two organizations share the same guiding objective—to bring about social, political and economic justice in North Carolina.

Progressive Democrats of North Carolina -
