19 Apr President’s Message – May, 2013
My husband and I recently took a Rhine river boat cruise that went from Frankfurt to Amsterdam. Like many of you, we enjoy the pace of these cruises as well as the proximity to shore; he for its convenience and I (ever the nurse) for the ease of reaching emergency services. As we neared Arnhem in the Netherlands, I noticed some familiar animals in the fields along the Rhine: Belted Galloways. How nice it was to be reminded of home when we were so far away!
Having already mentioned my concern about access to emergency services when traveling, I’d like to say a little more about those services here at home. Most of us appreciate how challenging it can be to find Village addresses, especially at night. While Chatham County emergency services have excellent GPS maps, you can help by making your home address clearly visible. Be sure that your house numbers are large and well lit and that, in an emergency, your exterior lighting is on. I know that some of you have installed blinking lights in your porch fixture that can be activated when emergency help is needed. Perhaps that is something that more of us should consider, either individually or collaboratively.
To continue on a theme, I’d like to remind all Fearringtonians that residents of Galloway Ridge are non-voting members of the FHA. We enjoy having our Galloway Ridge members participate in Village activities and appreciate being invited to many of the Galloway Ridge events. I’d like to end by wishing all the mothers among us as well as those who have provided mothering to others a very Happy Mothers’ Day.
