24 Sep Great Decisions
On Thursday, October 10, at 1:30 pm in The Gathering Place, our speaker will be Wesley Bryant, coauthor with Major General Dana Pittard (USA-Ret) of the new book Hunting the Caliphate.
In the summer of 2014, three years after America’s full troop withdrawal from the Iraq War, President Barack Obama authorized a small task force to push back into Baghdad. Their mission: protect the Iraqi capital and U.S. embassy from a rapidly expanding plague of brutality unleashed by the so-called Islamic State, or ISIS — one of the most barbaric insurgencies in the modern world.
Wes was the senior enlisted Joint Terminal Attack Controller (JTAC) in theater, responsible for directing the operation of close air support strikes against ISIS. His presentation will illustrate the unique challenges and strains of tactical level decision-making, and provide a vivid first-hand narrative describing the often misunderstood realm of the U.S. military’s Special Operations Forces.
