September Pick-up Will Be Earlier (on the 17th)

The August pick-up was canceled because of the expected bad weather here on Saturday, August 27th, which was related to nearby Hurricane Irene then much to our east.

Since we did not have our regularly scheduled August pick-up, we will do our next pick-up on Saturday, September 17th, sooner than usual. We’re looking forward to seeing returning and new volunteers for the next pick-up. As usual, we will meet at the Gathering Place at 7:30 AM and then fan out to our work areas. This date change will get us out there a little bit earlier and make it easier for volunteers to attend the September 24th Volunteer Thank You Brunch.

After Action Report on July 30th Pick-Up

Seven volunteers were in town for the monthly Adopt-A-Highway Pick-Up on Saturday, July 30th.  We picked up 18 bags of litter before the heat really set in.  Thanks to everyone who could make the pick-up.

The North Carolina DOT has informed us of the LITTER SWEEP, a biannual cleanup drive that will be conducted September 17 – October 1, 2011.  In addition to normal cleanup operations, Keep North Carolina Beautiful will have a contest for the most unusual roadside litter found during the event.  First place is $250; second, $100; and third, $50.  To participate, see the LITTER SWEEP website for rules and other related information, download an entry form, and mail the completed form with an attached photograph of the item and the person who found it. Identify the name of the road where the item was found, and you may be rewarded.
