April 30th., 2020 North Carolina Museum of Art, “Rodin and Dante: Steeped in Hell, Cast in Bronze” | |
Shelly Crisp will lead 10:30 and 11:30 lecture/tours in the Rodin Collection, with connections to Dante’s “Inferno”. Crisp, a docent since 2010 at the North Carolina Museum of Art, was executive director of the NC Humanities Council, and a former professor of English literature. “Steeped in Hell”, first inspired by Dante’s Inferno, was not cast until 1925 and remained a work-in-progress for 37 years. “The Thinker” and “The Kiss” were originally conceived as small parts of The Gates of Hell.
