Brightspeed Construction Update

Brightspeed Construction Update

Over the past month, many of you may have noticed the line installation equipment in the Village. This equipment belongs to MasTec, a contractor for Brightspeed Communications, the company formerly known as Century Link. The digging is intended to bury fiber optic cable throughout the Village.  While fiber optic cable service may be of value to some of us, the digging equipment and activity suddenly appeared without any notice to your FHA, the Service Groups, or Fitch Creations. At the same time, Brightspeed solicitors were going door to door attempting to sign residents up. Your FHA Board, along with many of the Service Group Presidents, met via Zoom with Brightspeed representatives. We requested that the solicitation be stopped, and it has been. We also asked for other information on their schedule for installation as well as their legal authority to perform this work. As of this writing, that information has not been forthcoming. The FHA attorney has recently contacted Brightspeed to demand the information and that further installation cease until we get answers to our questions. We will provide updates as and when we receive additional information. While we would welcome an alternative high-speed internet service provider in the Village, we need to make certain that they have the legal right to install their cables and equipment across land owned by our residents, the FHA and the Service Groups before they can proceed.
