The Winter Solstice marks the beginning of the winter season in the NorthernHemisphere, with December 21st the longest night of the year. This astronomical event is significant to many cultures, religions, and traditions, for many different reasons. Our FV event is a non-denominational winter-themed event.
The second annual Solstice Celebration with Friends in Fearrington will take place at 5:30PM on December 21, 2021. We will gather around the fountain by the Roost at 5:30 with our lanterns. No flames or glass allowed!
Try your hand at making a lantern or just bring a flashlight or an LED tea light. If you are making a lantern on your own, please choose natural, organic LED colors, within the winter or star-colored spectrum. See this Youtube link on how to make a simple lantern or you can buy a paper lantern here.
Our lantern walk follows through the Village. Those who are comfortable will take a Lantern Walk around the Meadow. All vaccinated persons are welcome to the celebration. *
