29 Dec President’s Message, January 2015
Although this should be true year-round, during this past season we have probably taken time to focus on our families and our friends. Perhaps there were times we got together and celebrated, in our own ways, the nature of the holidays and events that this time of year brings. Hopefully, we also took some time to think of those who are less fortunate and do what we could to enrich their lives as well: a small gift, a card of thanks, the call you had wished you made earlier. We live in a community and a corner of the county that, in many ways, has received what is good in life. It is important that we reflect upon that, for it is certainly not the case throughout the county, or, for that matter, beyond our county.
In a recent conversation with R.B. Fitch, he offered, “We are a team.” He was, I am sure, referring to the collaboration that could exist between Fitch Creations and the FHA. Certainly, I would choose to view his comment from that perspective. For each of us, the well being of the community is most important. Viewed within a larger context, and that of the season, we are, in fact, all part of a larger team and it is important that we do what we can to make that “team” function in the best way possible. The most difficult part of that job, of course, is to try to agree to our goals, or at least, to be willing to listen and perhaps compromise so that those goals can be said to be shared.
Fearrington Village is really just a small part of a much larger cosmos but it is our small part. Let us use the year ahead to do whatever we can to make this village a more special place than it already is. Be there for your family, friends, neighbors, and strangers you meet, as you would wish them to be there for you.
