26 Aug President’s Message – September 2014
Summer is almost over and if you’ve stayed around town, you’ve been able to witness what happens when the heat is not as bad as you would expect and the rain is more plentiful than usual. The beautiful Fearrington landscape has been as green and vibrant as it’s been in late summer since I moved here six years ago.
September brings a lot of vacationers back home and marks the start of a busier activity schedule for many of us. As you get back into gear and think about your participation in community life, I would ask that you consider the many volunteer opportunities that the village has available in all of its clubs, organizations and associations. It is the effort and skill of volunteers that make these activities work as well as they do to keep life in Fearrington enjoyable and set it apart from other communities.
At the same time, we need to be aware of growth in Fearrington and in the much larger Chatham County area around us. Rutherford Place, Burke Place, and Henderson Place are the latest part of Fearrington’s growth. Briar Chapel, our large neighbor to the northwest, presents a different kind of growth and change and Chatham Park, a recently approved mixed-use “new town” of 7000 acres to our south, will have an influence on Fearrington for many, many years to come.
Please come to the FHA Open Meeting on Wednesday, September 17 at 7 pm and take part in discussions of what’s currently known about development plans for growth in and around the village.
Joe Mottola, President
